Cashin Mortgages: Giving Back to the Community
At Cashin Mortgages, we believe in supporting the communities we serve. During the recent cold spell, our team was out delivering base layers and socks to local missions, helping those in need stay warm and cared for.

Homelessness in Canada: A Growing Concern
One of the largest groups affected by homelessness in Canada are single adult men. According to The State of Homelessness in Canada report:
47.5% of people experiencing homelessness are men between the ages of 25–55.
In 2009, 73.2% of homeless shelter users (ages 16 and older) were male.
The gap widens with age, with men making up 60% of youth shelter users and nearly 80% of adults over 55.

Why Are Single Men at Risk?
There are many reasons that contribute to homelessness among men, including:
Lack of affordable and available housing
Low vacancy rates and rising rental costs
Limited funding for mental health support
Gaps in the addiction treatment system
Insufficient social and economic supports to prevent family breakdown
Higher rates of mental illness, addiction, disability, and invisible disabilities such as brain injury and FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder)
Homelessness by the Numbers
The statistics highlight the urgency of action:
200,000+ Canadians experience homelessness each year.
150,000 Canadians rely on shelters annually.
30,000 Canadians are homeless on any given night.
50,000 Canadians are considered “hidden homeless,” staying with family or friends temporarily.

Cashin Mortgages Supports Rotary Brunch & Food4Kids
Cashin Mortgages was a proud sponsor of the first Rotary Brunch (2017) in Waterdown, supporting the Food4Kids program. Created by Michael Collette, Darryl Kirkland, Ryan Bridge, and Mark Cashin, the event aimed to raise awareness and help families facing food insecurity.
Partnering with the Waterdown BIA, Farmers Market, Legion, Grace Food Bank, and other local sponsors, the brunch supported 17 families from Mary Hopkins Elementary School.
What made the event unique was its voluntary donation model, ensuring everyone could attend. In 2017, it raised $10,000 in donations and sponsorships, with the cost to sponsor a family only $520 per year.
The Rotary team continues to shop weekly for families, and future goals include expanding the program to support more schools.
